ABOUT THE WORK

I love how some of my favorite artists portray their mothers or carry some sort of maternal symbolism. Louise Bourgeois used the spider as a symbol for the qualities she observed in her own mother - a kind of maternal duality showing a protective nature, fragile looking, but potentially harmful if threatened. I adore the idea of using nature to depict motherhood.

Horses will always remind me of my own mother. Somehow, my mother seems to understand their beautiful language; she has this unspoken understanding of trust with them. I began to realize my mom has the spirit of a horse - delicate but bold, often misunderstood, strong, and at the same time, often too tender for this world.
