I am truly obsessed - enamoured even - with the certain kind of home that feels beautiful precisely because it doesn't look too considered. To me there is nothing better than a home that feels warm, collected, and full of honest materials. I love a home that uses what is available and makes those things naturally lovely.

There is a French word for this spirit: débrouillardise. It is the art of figuring things out, making do, and finding something useful or beautiful in what is already available.

I also love the idea of bringing that spirit to the prairie home.

Not buying everything new to create a particular look is very anti-influencer culture right now, but noticing what is already around you is truly fulfilling. Gathering, repurposing, secondhand shopping, foraging, making, rearranging; these practices allow a home to come together gradually, with a little ingenuity and very little fuss.
